The bridge device is used to fill a gap where a tooth was previously. A bridge may be necessary to prevent:
- Moving of the teeth which may lead to future biting problems(occlusion) and/or issues with the jaw that can lead to gum disease.
- Bridges and crowns are made out of the same material.
- Bridges help the maintain of healthy and vibrant existing teeth.
- Fixed bridge- This is the most used method. It has a filler tooth that is attached to two crowns, this fits over the existing teeth which holds the bridge in place.
- The “Maryland” bridge is recommended for replacing any missing front teeth and the filers are attached to a metal band that are secured to the teeth supporting the partial. The metal bands are coated white to match the existing teeth.
- The Cantilever bridge is used when the teeth are on one side. The three-unit cantilever bridge has two crowned teeth that are next to each other, all on the side of the missing tooth space. The filler tooth then bonds with the two crowns which stretch to the missing tooth space.
